These HO models originally came from the United Kingdom sometime ago in the 1930’s. It easily gained popularity and as soon as it came across the Atlantic, it gained quicker popularity. In the United States, shops were rapidly emptied of HO model trains and it instantly became a supreme sensation among avid model train collectors. As the 1950’s dawned, the once model train heat dramatically began to decline and thus, the interest was short lived for a decade. Those years were a bit tough for companies who, at that time, were manufacturing in bulk. As the 1960’s came in, a great revival occurred. Once again, HO model trains flew of hundreds of shop shelves around the United States and steadily maintained its popularity until this present day.
The “HO” in HO model trains refers to the size or scale of train which is O and H for half. Thus, literally you’ll have a model rain that is half of size O. The HO model is in fact 1/87 scale of a standard sized train. This make it sound a bit small but when talking about what to expect from models, it is actually large. Majority of model trail and railroad enthusiasts favor them over all other model trains. If you will observe on most avid model railroad collectors, you will see an HO model train more often.
